One of my favorite things about this bird feeder is that it is made of metal. You can't hardly find any good quality metal bird feeders anymore without it containing plastic and/or wood parts. This bird feeder has attracted a lot more of male House Finches and female American Goldfinches but some other birds enjoy it, too. The yellow color of this bird feeder is a pretty bonus as well. The birds are able to eat the Thistle/Nyjer seed through the metal mesh or from the bird feeder tray without any problems. The fact that this bird feeder allows birds to eat through the wire mesh prevents less overcrowding because there is more room to feed than just from the tray. Filling up this bird feeder is pretty easy... just twist the top lid off of the bird feeder and fill the feeder up. When you get done just put the lid back on and give it a little twist to make sure it is secure. I found it easier to fill up the bird by using a funnel or a cup because the opening of the bird feeder is kind of small which makes it more difficult to fill up the bird feeder without seeds falling to the ground. I hope to have this feeder for many years!Date published: 2017-01-06Rated 5 out of 5 by Donn989 from No-no thistle seed feeder I bought this feeder about a month ago and I'm very happy with it. It took a few days for the birds to warm up to it but now they're going crazy over it. Two nights ago we counted 11 finches on the feeder at one time! Must be some kind of record. Would recommend this feeder to anyone. Quality construction.Date published: 2016-08-02

Q: How should I store bird seed?
A: The bag of bird seed included in this bundle includes a resealable bag and a StayFresh® absorber to keep seed fresh. Both these features will ensure your birds enjoy the great seed in your feeders. When not in a feeder, your bird seed should be stored in a cool, dry place. To keep pests away from the seed you're not using, place it in a chew-proof galvanized can.
Q: Were do American Goldfinches go during the winter?
A: Goldfinches are known for their beautiful yellow plumage in the spring and summer months. But in the fall and winter, they just seem to disappear. Did the goldfinches migrate? No, they didn't!
In fact, they're still visiting your feeders -- just while wearing a new set of feathers! In the autumn, American Goldfinches molt and leave their famous plumage behind. Those brilliant yellow feathers are replaced by olive- and brown-colored feathers. If you pay close attention, you will see little else changes between their summer and winter wardrobes. They still have the same black and white banding that makes their yellow feathers so striking.
Q: How do I clean this feeder?
A: The design of this all-metal bird feeder makes it a breeze to clean. Here's how: Remove the lid and empty out any remaining bird seed. Next, scrub it with a mild soap-and-water solution. Finally, rinse the feeder and allow to drip-dry before refilling.
