Wild Bird Feeders - FAQs
Q: How often should I fill my bird feeder?
A: Naturally, you should fill your feeder whenever it gets empty! That being said, if your feeder isn't emptied after two weeks, then you should throw any remaining seed away.
You can refill a feeder as often as you see fit. If it sits empty for a few days, that's OK—your feathered friends aren't starving. They're just searching for food elsewhere, whether it's at other feeders or in a more natural setting.
Q: Why are there no birds visiting my feeder?
A: There are many reasons why birds may not visit a bird feeder. The first thing you should do is look at different times of the day! You may just be watching your feeder at the wrong time. Birds prefer to feed in the morning and just before dusk.
If you're still not seeing birds, then it may be a matter of location. Are there perching opportunities near your feeder? Without a place to "study" a possible feeding station first, many birds won't eat from it.
Your birds may also feel threatened by another animal, such as a cat or squirrel. Move your feeder 12 to 20 feet from the nearest hiding place for cats or "launch pad" for a leaping squirrel.
