Perky-Pet® Transparent Squirrel Baffler

Perky Pet® Transparent Squirrel Baffler

Squirrels have a way of ransacking a bird feeder, dumping all the feed onto the ground and making a mess of things. If you find peace in watching wild birds at the bird feeder--but not so much those pesky squirrels, this Perky Pet® Transparent Squirrel Baffler can help. With its large 16-inch diameter and gently curved dome-shaped profile, there's no getting around it: birds can enjoy eating at the feeder, and squirrels will be blocked from bothering them. Save money on seed, reduce time refilling and cleaning up, and enjoy a less stressful viewing experience with this baffler in place. It promotes a more efficient way to feed wild birds and can be used with any bird feeder.

Hang or Pole Mount

This transparent 16-inch squirrel baffler can be hung or pole mounted. When hanging the baffler, it blocks squirrels from above. The included hooks have the strength to hold up to 50 pounds. The top hook attaches the baffler to a tree limb or other hanging location, while the bird feeder hangs from the second hook located underneath the baffler. Most squirrels will descend the wire to the baffler and give up. A more persistent squirrel may put its weight on the baffler in efforts to access the bird feeder below, but after climbing onto the baffler, it will quickly tilt, sending the squirrel down to the ground (startled maybe, but uninjured). The hanging baffler has the added benefit of partially protecting bird seed from rain and tree debris.

When placed on bird feeder poles, this baffler prevents squirrels from gaining access to the bird feeder from below. Squirrels may try to climb up to the feeder, but they won't be able to get around the baffler. To pole mount this baffler, simply lower it over the top of the pole and screw it into place. About a foot below the feeder works best. Everything needed for either hanging or pole mounting comes included: a 16-inch-diameter transparent shield and all hardware (2 hooks, 1 baffle hub, and 3 screws).

Perky Pet® Transparent Squirrel Baffler is rated 3.5455 out of 5 by 220.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Okay, but . . . I've purchased two of these. The hooks are made of plastic. The weight of the feeder and feed, have coupled with the heat of the sun to pull these hooks straight rendering the baffler useless and the feeder falls to the ground. If these hooks were made of metal, I would give this 5 stars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Feeder I've ever had! I've had one for at least 5 years but the weather and changing seasons has taken a toll. It did not help that mw wife while hanging the last time she filled it dropped it and a plastic piece at the bottom where the screw rod connects cracked. I was able to fix temporarily but I will be buying new ones in near future as my budget allows. I'm very happy to see they come in a 2 pack and will be ordering as soon as possible. I love how much capacity they have and the have been relatively squirrel proof.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A love - hate relationship 1st the springs, ya they are a bit flimsy and get rusty and wear out after 2-3 years, but cheap replacements are available from Perky-pet and they haven't been to hard to replace. Love: 8 lb seed capacity, most squirrel resistant hanging feeders are much smaller and are emptied in a day. 100% success in keeping squirrels out. Hate: 3 seed sections to fill, smaller holes make it more difficult and messier to fill. Unscrewing the lid to fill. Actually you need to use the knob on the top, not the lid, the knob serves as a big threaded nut. Also getting the lid back on can be a guessing game. Clear plastic parts crack easily. REALLY HATE: The top knob seizes to the threaded rod that hold the entire feeder together. The rod will unscrew thru the lower plate and the 1,000 piece feeder falls apart. Getting it back together is a big project. I've tried all sorts of lubricating oils and greases, with zero success. Teflon plumbers tape works, but you need to re-apply it every 3-4th time you re-fill the feeder.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 21 pound squirrel After a few weeks, our baffler is broken. It was attached to the pole securing the feeder. Because it has a 20 pound rating, we must have 21 pound squirrels at our house.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor exceuse for a baffle This is a terrible product. The set screws are near impossible to put in. I had to use a vise-grip to screw them in. The collar itself is made of a brittle plastc that cracks easily in cold weather. In addition even though the baffle is flexible, I accidentally dropped it and it shattered. On the plus side, it does keep the squirrels off the feeder - if you can get it installed..

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Nightmare - well, that's a bit dramatic. I have never screwed around with a bird feeder as long and unsuccessfully as I have with this one. Thanks to a previous comment I was finally able to figure out how to open the feeder to fill it but now that's it's filled, I can't screw the top back on. Design flaw needs to be overcome. This could be good. In the meantime I'm staring at a filled but useless feeder. Customer Service not open today.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from How do you open it? I just bought this and was excited to fill it and place it in my yard. But - how do you open it? I tried turning the lid counter clockwise, but it did nothing! HELP!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Imagine my disappointment Not only did this feeder fail to prevent the squirrels from gaining access to the seeds, they destroyed several of the plastic feeding ports making the feeder useless. Even though I tried several spring tension settings, the squirrels were some how still able to feed. After 3 days I conceded defeat. However, at the next filling (after owning it 7 days) I discovered that the tubes would no longer retain seeds. The squirrels had chewed the plastic feeding portals out of two of the tubes so the seed just ran out the holes. One tube still functions, but probably not for long.
