I put this feeder up a week ago and have had non stop hummingbirds! I never realized that I had so many hummingbirds in my yard. I have had a couple of problems with the seal but once figured out, it works great.

First, a disclosure: I am writing about a "review" model of this feeder that I received from a vendor. I have no prior experience with hummingbirds or feeding them.
That being said, this is a thoughtfully designed vessel and feeder. Both the base and the top are removed by unscrewing, making all parts accessible for a quick cleaning.
The feeder came with less-than-minimal instructions (a few vague words on a sticker on the bottom of the feeder), and it was completely unclear to me what Perky-Pet meant by a "sports bottle" design. This cries for at least a slip of illustrated paper in the box—I'd even be happy to write it for them.
The steps are: 1. Prepare nectar and cool if necessary. (We use 4:1 water to sugar.) 2. Close the bottom cover by screwing it onto the post. It must be tight enough to seal, but do not overtighten or you may break the post. 3. Ensure that the clear nectar vessel is closed by pushing down with your flat palm on the rim. 4. Fill the nectar vessel with the prepared nectar. For best results fill as close as possible to the rim. The vessel has a capacity of 16 oz (473ml). 5. Close the top cover by screwing it clockwise onto the rim. Continue to turn the cover until the rubber gasket is firmly seated. 6. Hang the feeder. 7. Pull DOWN on the red base until it moves about a half inch (1.27cm). You may see two or three air bubbles float up in the nectar vessel when it is open. Check for drips or leaks.
When done correctly, this is a completely mess-free way to maintain a feeder, and we have in our first week already attracted the ruby-throats that have been cruising our neighborhood.
WIth included directions this would be a five-star product!
