Simple, but effective April 19, 2015
That add-on moat was such a simple addition. It has stopped the pesky ants cold. No amount of Off or insecticides would keep them away from the feeder. Down that wire they would come. They managed to even get inside the old bottle. The birds love this new feeder. Remember to keep the moat filled or the ants will be back.
EACH RE-DESIGN GETS BETTER! March 13, 2015
Have had the old design of this pinch-waist feeder and the older narrow-fill bottle was difficult to clean and fill. The flower ports, bee-guards, and perches remain the same on this new re-designed model which our Hummies are accustomed to using. We don't use the built-in water ant moat since the heavy winds splash it all out so we use the separate Perky Pet Ant Guard to hook onto each feeder. I still love my old design pinch-waist glass feeders because the Hummies love the big flower ports but this new design is a great improvement without changing the big flower ports!

I purchased 2 of these a few weeks ago as my old ones needed replacing. When I went back for more, they were sold out. I love the wide mouth for easy filling, the ant and bee moat is a great addition and also allows 2 hummers to feed from each port at the same time. I do wish they also came in a larger capacity for use during migration time (now in Texas). My hummers empty it within a day; they're quite picky (prefer only glass and only Perky Pet Nectar). Now I'm shopping for my current and future needs. My problem is I don't have enough hours to simply sit, watch them and regroup since they're such refreshing little sweeties(?).
Love this feeder August 11, 2014
This feeder is a vast improvement over the old, traditional, glass feeder. It is so much easier to fill and clean that we have bought a second one. Now all you have to do is come up with a glass oriole feeder.

Constant visitors to this feeder! Hummingbirds love it, bees are not a problem, and ant moat works well. Secure hook well for windy days, since vessel is glass.

I really recommend this hummingbird feeder. It's very well built and was easy to fill. It was also nice that it came with the first nectar to fill it with.

This feeder is solidly made with very hard and thick plastic. The color is very bright. Hopefully hummingbirds will see it. Where we live hummingbirds aren't plentiful so none so far has been spotted but I have little doubt that this will work. The unit also comes with a small connecting hook that goes into the unit so the other end could be hung onto a hook that is typically too thick to go onto the unit itself. That is a very nice feature.

This is a good hummingbird feeder and it's a pretty good size for this time of year, when hummingbird migration is over but you've still got a lot of residents and migrants hanging around, not to mention Hatch Year birds. It is easy to construct, as the bee guards snap on, the base with perch handles just twists on and off, and the glass bottle part of it also just twists in and out. Therefore it is also very easy to clean because everything just comes on and off, even the ant guard on top (which also just twists on and off). The feeder comes with a free packet of nectar; just combine with water and you're good to go.
I don't know how to really say whether hummingbirds like this feeder better than any other. What I will say, though, is that this is the only hummingbird feeder I have up right now and for the first time ever today I found a Costa's hummingbird (adult male) in my yard. He seems to love it, because he has been defending it for the last seven hours since I found him. He likes to perch about one to two feet away from it to make sure nobody else comes in.
Amazon Reviw, Seems to have everything. March 06, 2014
I agree that the perches seem to need to be a little longer, but will have to wait to see what the hummingbirds think.
This feeder was one of the few that had everything I wanted: small size (8 oz.); glass jar; bee/wasp guards; ant moat. I wanted a small feeder because of the frequency with which the feeders need to be cleaned in the very hot weather (sometimes daily). I did not want to waste feed by having to throw extra away at each cleaning.
I also bought Amazon's "Droll Yankees PLB Perfect Little Brush" by Droll Yankees for cleaning and the add-on "Perky-Pet 67 Metal Hook for Bird Feeders." I found the least expensive chain for hanging under my eave at Walmart.

I've had 2 of these feeders for over a year, and they are fantastic. Easy to take apart and clean, and the bee guards and perches are a huge plus. The glass doesn't leech chemicals into the nectar when it gets really hot outside, and it's still light enough to hang off my kitchen window with a double suction-cup feeder hook. Best feeder for the price, in my opinion.

Easy to clean, easy to fill. The wide mouth jar opening is a very nice feature. I like that it has perches too. I'm sure the ant moat would work well, but no problem with ants where mine hangs.

I think the perches need to be a little longer, otherwise exactly what i wanted. Will wait and see if the perches will be right for the birds.
