I've been using this feeder for 10+ years. I have spare flowerets so I can switch out quickly and then I bleach them so they are clean for when I refill the feeder in order not to spread bacteria to the hummers. I have also just purchased a new base, but haven't started using it yet - the old yankee in me doesn't want to throw anything out. When the original falls apart from years of use, I will use the new base. But it's been at least 10 years maybe 15 since I purchased it and the only problem I've had with it is the plastic perching ring is breaking up.
The sale price on this item right now (8/2011) is a GREAT deal - one to not pass up.

I have used different feeders, but for the past 6 years nothing but Perky Pet small and the 30oz feeder. Right now it's peak humming time, making up 1.6 gallons of sugar water a day for 7 feeders which is around 3.45 pounds of sugar used each day. Thanks Perky Pet.
