We feed the birds year around from multiple feeders and this one is the bomb.
I don't think you will find a heavier-made feeder than this one. We no longer use cheap-made feeders because the squirrels and raccoons just demolish them in a short time -- there is no way to eliminate that problem so we just buy quality feeders and live with the issue.
Not a lot of birds can feed on this unit at one time but I still like it a lot as I have multiple feeders and no one starves at my house.

We've been using this bird feeder for a few weeks.
It works well enough. The birds spill some seed but no more than is usual. The gravity feed system seems to work well and has not clogged. However, we are using a small seed mix. If you were using "all sunflower seeds" then I don't think it would clog and not drop. We've had no problem with squirrels even though we have a lot of them.
The window is a piece of plastic but seems good enough for the job. The metal construction is sturdy. The color scheme is unobtrusive.
A couple points to mention:
1) Any bird feeder you put up is going to have a mess under it, where the birds drop seeds and shells. So before you buy one make sure you are putting it over grass or some other area. Birds can be messy eaters.
2) If you are really a bird lover, plant some shrubs that birds like and let the birds eat it as it grows. This is supposed to be a lot healthier for them. However, a lot of the birds who come to our feeder are house sparrows and I'm not too worried about them eating freshly grown millet.

This was a hit out of the park from the first day it went up! I've had many feeders that the birds had to warm up to; but this one attracted them immediately, and it needs filling more frequently than others that I've had. I could just be missing the drama, but I haven't noticed the squirrels going after it either. It's very popular with finches, sparrows, and other little feeding-station regulars, and also the blue jays plunder from it. A very nice addition to the collection at the feeding station, and entertaining for hours.
Can someone please tell me how to fill this feeder? Do you pop the bottom off and fill it? We tried this and wasted a bunch of seeds.

This feeder is designed to attract birds while keeping the squirrels away and so far, it succeeds. It's not the sturdiest feeder, with a rather cheap plastic window to monitor the seed level, but under a shaded tree, it should likely last for some time. Multiple finches come to feed daily, using the small perch and even the hood above to stand on the feeder. Recommended.

I own several Perky Pet brand feeders and have enjoyed every one I have purchased. This one is made of metal that the birds can ACTUALLY perch on as the perches are nice and long. However, make sure that they are in place and tight before installing as I lost one (then found). I use mostly chicken scratch grains and cracked corn.
This is a sturdy and very well-built bird feeder as is all of the Perky Pet brands.

This is a sturdy, well made bird feeder. The tube is rigid metal. The perches and feeder guards are metal. They are removable fr cleaning and storage. The cap is metal. The only plastic is the inner sleeve that covers the windows. This is made out of flexible plastic and has a seam. You need to rotate it so that the seam is not in one of the windows. It hangs by a metal cable that runs the length of the feeder until the upper perch. It is well balanced. The feeder holds 1.5 pounds of mixed seeds. The bottom can be removed for cleaning. The bottom is held on with a spring and is easy to remove and replace.
I am worried that it might get hot if placed in the sun (in light of all of the metal parts). It's too early in the season to tell.
The birds seem to like it. I do too.
Amazon Review, I Love Perky Pet! March 24, 2014
Reviewer: JJ "Avid Reader"
I love, love, love feeding and watching birds! My backyard has 9 bird feeders and all but 2 are Perky Pet. The birds love the feeders and this one is no exception. The yellow finches especially like this feeder. Now, for the 4 stars.....it is giving the birds a problem from time to time. This feeder has 2 perches that fit, but one of the perches keeps falling out. It doesn't stay locked in. When the birds land on the perch it turns and falls. I hope I am describing this correctly. I fix it as soon as it happens but it happens often. The other perch has not had this problem.....it stays locked in place. Even though this happens the birds still love the feeder and keep coming back to it.
