  Amazon Review, Best feeder ever
Reviewer:

Very nice to fill and fun to watch the squirrels try to get the seed which they finally gave up!

Amazon Review, Best birdfeeder I've ever bought.
Reviewer:

I'm so glad I got this feeder. The squirrels were enptying my feeders within a day. The birds didn't have a chance. Now they do and I am treated to so many beautiful songbirds. I would recommend this feeder to anyone who wants songbirds to surround the house.

  Amazon Review, I love this!

I bought this as a gift for my grandmother for Christmas. I have had mine for about 4 years. It is a bit rusty on the top from being outside through all the seasons for so long, but I simply repainted the top. It took a bit for birds to use it, but they love it. I have seen squirrels try to get at the seed several times, but they always give up really quickly.

I had a birdfeeder with a grid on it for years and it finally bit the dust. I couldn't find the same model, but when I saw this one I thought it looked much better; with the crossing slanted grid instead of the boxed grid my old one had. It works great - the little birds just swoop right in but the noisy blue birds are out of luck.

I love this bird feeder because it lives up to the reviews I read on it before purchasing; it truly does keep the squirrels out and only small bird can enter to feed. The bottom tray keeps the seeds from spilling. It's well constructed, too. The reason I didn't give it a 5 star rating is because it only has 4 perches, not 6.

This feeder took a few days for the birds to venture inside of the squirrel-proof barrier, but now they are used to it & it's fun to watch them enjoying the seeds without the squirrels upstaging them. At least so far!

We got this feeder 2 weeks ago to replace an older one that was being raided by a very persistent squirrel. It seemed well built, was easy to fill, and looked better than most squirrel-proof feeders.

But after a week, no birds were using this feeder, and I began to feel like I had wasted my money. Then one male Goldfinch figured it out. The next day, his mate was feeding. After a few more days, four pairs of Goldfinches and several other birds were using the feeder. As far as we can tell, the squirrels haven't gotten into it yet.

Just be patient, and the birds will figure it out.

I feel compelled to write my first review cuz this item should have at least 4 stars.
I'm back buying my second.
This is easily the most attractive of all the feeders I've seen so far and I'd like to address the two negative reviews.
I've had this feeder for over a year now and we have a ton of grey squirrels but none have ever figured out how to get seed from it. When it is shaken, the seed mostly drops in the tray. That said....the population of red tree squirrels is increasing recently and they are able to climb right through the caging. They sit inside and will even let me walk up to the feeder at times. I don't have a problem with these small squirrel, it's the greys that are destructive. And lastly another review mentioned plastic hanger......it's actually metal wire with a plastic coating.
Buy it......you'll love it.

  problematic construction
Reviewer:

I got this birdfeeder at christmas and after about 3 weeks the sheath covering the wire on which the feeder hangs tore and got bunched up on the top and the bottom by the mere motion of opening and closing the feeder. This has resulted in an inability to properly close the top. Only very small birds enter the cage, so far only chicadees. Finches are very reluctant and so are titmice, nuthatches etc.A downy woodpecker once in a while will try to reach in to secure a seed.Contrary to the sleeve(depicting a cardinal) that was on the cage when it arrived, cardinals are clearly too large and will not go near it.The squirrels have tried and given up!So this is a very mixed success story. I am disappointed that even though we live virtually in the woods and have a lot of birds around us, very few come to the feeder.

I have had this feeder now for a little over 3 weeks now and have not had a bird feed from this feeder at all, I know it said to be patient but this is ridiculous... the first week a finch was on it looking but never went in through the screen and has never returned. Not to happy with this product...

Dear Catherine,

Thank you for submitting a review for the Birdscapes® The Preserve™ Feeder (model 735). Birds are creatures of habit. It can take several weeks for them to take to a new feeder. For an enthusiastic feeder these few weeks can certainly feel like an eternity!

Try these tips to help attract birds to your new feeder: Temporarily take down any established feeders on your property. This will help them to find their new feeder. Once you notice birds feeding from your new feeders, replace the established ones. If this is your first feeder try placing a shiny pan (like a pie pan) on the ground beneath your feeder to attract hungry birds.

We hope you find these tips helpful! If you have questions or need assistance please do not hesitate to contact us at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).

Dear Katie,

Thank you for reviewing the Birdscapes® The Preserve™ feeder (model 735). Your feedback has been shared with our product development. It can take some time for birds to become accustomed to and trust something new in their environment. Removing other feeders for a period of time sometimes will speed up the process of attracting birds.

  Not Squirrel proof.
Reviewer:

The seeds fall from the ports as the birds eat and pile up on the shelf at the bottom of the tube. The squirrel is then able to stuff himself from the shelf without even having to work at getting seeds out of the ports, the birds do the work for him.

Thank you for your online review of the Birdscapes® The Preserve™ feeder (model 735). We appreciate your feedback and are sorry to hear that the squirrels have been able to steal the birdseed from this feeder. These comments have been shared with our Product Development Team for use in our quality control measures.

Squirrels can be very persistent and sometimes a more holistic approach is needed to deter them. You may want to try placing or hanging your feeder on a pole that is 10 feet away from the nearest tree, fence or launching place making sure it is at least 5 feet above the ground. Also adding a squirrel baffle above and or below your feeder is very effective in preventing squirrels from gaining access.

Above all, we want to ensure that you are satisfied with your purchase. Please keep in mind that your feeder is covered by a one year warranty as well as a 30 day return policy. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Consumer Relations Team at 1-855-PERKYPET (1-855-737-5973).
