I have had this bird feeder at least 10 years and was able to purchase replacement inserts for it. It is a favorite with the birds. You can either fill it with 3 different types of seeds, or take out the dividers and just fill it with one as I do. Actually purchased a second one because I have been pleased with it and find the birds really use this one more than my others.

  Bird Perches???
Reviewer:

I replaced 1 of  my 3 bird feeders with this feeder. It has been hanging for 2 days now with no birds. Where do they perch to eat? I'm thinking they perch on the cage but am not sure if I am missing perches or not.

Love this feeder. Squirrels can hang on it, but can only get a few seeds at a time.

Reviewer:

I have purchased replacement parts for my feeder. You have to search awhile, but you can find them. It's better than throwing the metal frame in the trash.

I've had one of these feeders for about 6 months. The squirrels absolutely cannot get into the feeder through the cage, but the woodpeckers, titmouses, chickadees, finches, etc. can eat from it. A squirrel did figure out how to push the top up and ate the seed out of the top compartment, and chewed on the tube, but we just put a bunji cord over the top and the squirrels can't get in anymore (it's fun to watch them try for a few minutes and then give up).

All of the parts are replaceable if your supplier carries them, so I paid $4 to replace the chewed tube and it's good as new. I love the way the three compartments come apart...I find it very easy to clean, much better than solid tubes with perches through them, and I don't have much trouble with seed getting wet (and we had a lot of rain this Fall). You just have to wait until it's pretty empty to pull it apart and clean it, and I just dump the last bit of seed into my tray feeder when I dismantle it to clean it. I can clean it using a paper towel in a couple of minutes on the deck before I refill it. This is the best feeder I've ever owned. I'm feeding the birds, not the squirrels.

  Amazon Review, Nice Feeder Design
Reviewer:

I had an earlier version of this feeder which was not separated into three distinct sections. This one is a little harder to fill with seed as you need to use a funnel to fill the separate sections through the center tube--a good feature if you are using different seeds in each section. I liked the earlier version better; nonetheless, I like it and the birds love it.

I have had two of the model 104 feeders that resist squirrels for 7 years. The square plastic seed holders break into pieces because of cold winters so I am looking for them on the secondary market. These are rugged feeders and squirrels and ratcoons can not damage them.

  Tough Ol' Bird!
Reviewer:

I've been using this style birdfeeder for 20 years now... this will be my 4trh or 5th one. Main reason: it survives black bear raids!!! Its' sturdy wire cage is tough as nails! I'd like to be able to buy replacement plastic interior seedholder sections (bears are not kind to plastic) but, all in all, this feeder lasts the longest and it's easy to fill. Yes, indeed, this feeder is very "bear-able" , but not particularly squirrel-proof (just feed those little critters sunflower seeds at their own "ground stations" and they won't bother your feeder). All things considered, the birds and I like it very much.

  Not squirrel proof
Reviewer:

The squirrels in backyard figured out how to lift the top in two days and get to the seed. I drilled holes on opposite sides of the top and used spring loaded clips/rings to hold the top in place. No further squirrel problems. However, after the harshest winter in 100 yrs in Michigan I found that two of the three plastic chambers have split apart vertically at the corners. Hopefully replacement parts are available.

The Dilemma is only for the chewing
Reviewer:

I bought two of these before they started putting the dividers and tube in them. I needed replacement plastic seed compartments because they deteriorate in the sun. I was pleased that the replacement kit I ordered included the dividers.
The wire cage prevents the squirrels from chewing through the plastic compartments, but my squirrels hang upside down by their hind feet and eat their fill by reaching in and getting the seed with their front paws.
Another fault is the wire rope hanger. I hang mine on a metal hook and the weight of the squirrels and the swinging motion they create on the feeder causes the strands to break.

  RESPONSE FROM PERKY-PET

JUNE 28, 2011

Dear Barbara,

Thank you for sharing your feedback concerning the Perky-Pet® Evenseed™ Squirrel Dilemma (model 104).  It is truly difficult to have a feeder that is entirely squirrel proof.  The wire mesh is designed to keep the squirrel from damaging your feeder.  To add another level of squirrel resistance you may want to consider adding a squirrel baffle to your feeder.  Placement of your feeder is also key in protecting your feeder from squirrels.  Hang your feeder 10 ft away from the nearest tree, fence, or launching point as squirrels can jump up to 8 ft horizontally. Also, make sure your feeder is 5 to 8 ft. off the ground because squirrels can jump up to 4 ft. vertically.

  A real Dilemma
Reviewer:

Not as easy as it looks to fill. My wife tried and then I tried and we ended up with seed everywhere. Poorly designed. It would be far better if each container was fully sealed and then they could be filled up out of the cage and then stacked. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

Thank you for taking the time to share this valuable feedback regarding the filling of this feeder. We apologize for any inconvenience. Often using a piece of paper rolled into a tube will aid in filling the three different compartments.
